A free "urban escape for yogis" is scheduled for Sept. 9 on the Santa Monica Pier, open to people at all levels of yoga interest and experience.
Called Yoga in the City, the 1-6 p.m. event is part of a Wanderlust fundraising project, with all the proceeds going to organizations including Off the Mat Into the World and Yoga Across America. The event is free, but donations are encouraged.
The afternoon includes two yoga classes with a performance by MC Yogi in between. It's a way to sample the Wanderlust philosophy without having to get on a plane.
Similar events are planned in 30 countries through the Yoga Aid Challenge, an international "yoga relay" intended to create "a wave of yogic connectedness," with an event beginning every 15 minutes starting in Sydney, Australia, and ending in Santa Monica. The goal is to raise $1 million.
