Phragmipedium manzurii, a.k.a. the discovery orchid Just last year, a man from Colombia sent Higgins and his team a photo of an unidentified orchid. Such a find is neat but not necessarily exciting about 500 new orchid species are identified each year. But typically those new orchids are boring small, green, no cool flower to speak of. This orchid was big, showy and pretty. A real coup!
