Gift pick No. 1: Painted ceramics from Kat Hutter and Roger Lee

Share

We set out to find 53 unique holiday gift picks from indie artists, artisans and craftspeople -- one every day from now until Christmas Eve -- and thought it a fitting to start with Kat Hutter and Roger Lee, whose studio is one of several making Los Angeles such a good place to be for fans of modern ceramics.

The artists, who maintain separate careers in painting (Hutter) and ceramics (Lee), have been blending their talents for an interesting collection of graphic pieces appearing in some of L.A.’s more interesting stores.

New for the couple: large vessels premiering this weekend at one of the Arts ReStore LA pop-up shops. The scale and the prices ($350 to $400) of the works are bigger than the couple’s earlier collaborations; they can be seen in a space shared with other artists at 1000 Westwood Blvd. in West L.A.

At the other end of the budget spectrum: drippers ($38) and cups ($48) for the pour-over coffee drinker in your life. Those pieces are part of the couple’s production inventory that also includes nicely proportioned bowls and vases, all made in Highland Park. You can buy these pieces through Platform, General Store, Spartan and, later this month, at Wright’s in Manhattan Beach.

More unique gifts appearing here daily. Stay tuned.
