Muji delays opening of Hollywood pop-up store

Share

Muji, the Japanese design firm that had expected to open a Hollywood pop-up store Dec. 3 and a permanent U.S. flagship on Dec. 14, announced that the pop-up will not launch until Dec. 7. The target opening date for the permanent store remains unchanged, a spokeswoman said.

The company offered no explanation for the pop-up postponement. As reported previously, the location for both pop-up and permanent store is Hollywood Boulevard, near the TLC Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s) and the Hollywood & Highland shopping center.

Muji Hollywood will be the largest Muji store in the U.S. and will sell furniture, stationery, health and beauty products, clothing, dishes and cutlery, bedding and, in a first for Muji in the U.S., food.

As a teaser to the flagship opening, the pop-up shop will be set up in front of the permanent store and will stay open through year’s end, the company said. The pop-up will emphasize the company’s travel items, such as neck cushions.

Corrected: An earlier version of this post gave the incorrect day of week for the pop-up launch.
