Style de Vie store opens on Beverly Boulevard
Jean-Christophe Hryb started in the design world as a wholesaler more than 20 years ago, collecting vintage graphics from around the world.
He moved on to rehabilitating vintage industrial steel furniture, opening the retail space Twenty Gauge at H.D. Buttercup in L.A.
Now he has opened another store, Style de Vie along Beverly Boulevard. In the hands of the professional collector, who also does residential and commercial interior design, the small shop has been transformed into an eccentric space filled with vintage castoffs, graphic artworks and quirky educational displays.
There is much to take in here, and it’s a fun outing: old steel gym lockers from Hryb’s Twenty Gauge line, oversized midcentury ceramic lamps, anatomical displays, even vintage science lab glass.

Antique marquee and channel letters are displayed throughout the showroom along with bold black-and-white trolley signs, gorgeous vintage maps, French movie posters and colorful Hagemann botanical prints. Prices begin as low as $25 for prints and go up to $5,000 for linen-backed posters. Hryb said typical vintage prints run from $100 to $500.
Hryb is also fabricating what he calls “industrial modern” furnishings in North Hollywood, including the walnut and concrete table pictured here ($5,450). Customers can request items in any size and material including wood, glass, lucite, steel or concrete.
Shoppers also can leave Style de Vie with an education on how vintage design can feel of-the-moment.
“Why throw things away when we can bring them back to life?” said Hryb, who goes by his first initials, J.C. “We want to keep this planet alive as long as we can.”
