Think of Old Dominions mens basketball team as a mid-major at your own risk. Notre Dame learned that lesson in March. The Monarchs capped a 27-9 season by beating the Irish 51-50 in the first round of the NCAA tournament, then put a scare into Baylor in the second round. ODUs first win in the Big Dance came on the heels of its regular-season and CAA tournament championships and followed titles in a pair of upstart postseason tournaments. The Monarchs have won 146 games in the last six seasons, and coach Blaine Taylor is two victories away from becoming ODUs winningest coach.
