The Trade - July 31 Yankees acquire 3B Aaron Boone Cincinnati Reds acquire LHP Brandon Claussen, LHP Charlie Manning Did it help? The same day the Yankees dealt third baseman Robin Ventura, they brought in Boone, who was in the midst of an All-Star season with the Cincinnati Reds, for a pair of pitching prospects. Hitting .254 with six home runs in 54 games, he helped lead New York to the postseason. Boone never hit above .200 in any playoff series, but he etched his place into Yankees history with his walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off Tim Wakefield in Game 7 of the epic 2003 ALCS victory over the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees went on to lose to the Florida Marlins in the 2003 World Series, with Boone hitting just .143 for the series. Boone injured his knee playing basketball the following spring, prompting the Yankees to replace him with Rangers shortstop Alex Rodriguez.
