The Trade - May 26 Red Sox acquire LHP Byung-Hyun Kim Arizona Diamondbacks acquire 3B Shea Hillenbrand Did it help? The Sox desperately needed pitching help and also needed to move third baseman Hillenbrand, who had been complaining about his playing time. The solution? Flip Hillenbrand for Kim, who provided the team with a lot of versatility as he could start or relieve. He started five games for the Sox, but primarily was used out of the bullpen, going 8-5 with a 3.18 ERA and 16 saves for the Red Sox. He appeared in just one postseason game in 2003, giving up one run in two-thirds of an inning. Kim began the 2004 season in the starting rotation, but injuries kept him from being effective and he spent the majority of the year in the minors. He was traded in the offseason to the Rockies.
