Chacon had a rough start to 2005 with the Pirates, going 1-7, but the trade to the Yankees seemed to revitalize him midway through the season. Chacon went 7-3 with New York and posted a 2.85 ERA in 14 games with New York, helping the Yankees reach the playoffs. He started Game 1 of the 2005 ALDS and got a no decision, pitching 6.1 innings and giving up two runs in the Yankees' loss. Chacon had a rough start to 2006, posting a 7.00 ERA with New York before being traded to Pittsburgh mid-season for outfielder Craig Wilson.
