1999: Bryce Florie

The Trade - July 31 Red Sox acquire RHP Bryce Florie Detroit Tigers acquire LHP Mike Maroth Did it help? Florie was a solid addition to the Red Sox bullpen, going 2-0 with a 4.80 ERA in 14 games with the Sox in 1999, though he did not pitch in the playoffs. Florie, however, is probably best known for getting hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Ryan Thompson of the New York Yankees on Sept. 8, 2000. The injury fractured his cheek and orbital bones and nearly cost him his eye. Florie attempted a comeback in 2001, but wasn't ever the same, playing in just seven games with an 11.42 ERA. Maroth had a six-year MLB career, mostly with the Tigers. His best season came in 2005, when he went 14-14 with a 4.74 ERA.LAWRENCE JACKSON / ASSOCIATED PRESS
