( CHRISTOF STACHE, AFP/Getty Images / January 27, 2011 ) Consider the difference between regular drinkers and binge drinkers. According to the American Heart Association, drinking too much alcohol can lead to high blood pressure and heart failure, and binge drinking can lead to stoke or sudden cardiac death. Moderate drinking is considered on average one to two drinks per day for men and one drink for women (a drink is one 12 oz. beer, 4 oz. of wine, 1.5 oz. of 80-proof spirits, or 1 oz. of 100-proof spirits). Binge drinkers are twice as likely to develop heart disease or have a heart attack than regular drinkers. |
