9/11 Memorial Visit An Annual Tradition

Sondra Phoner of New City, N.Y., has been placing a stone and a flag on the memorial marker of her brother, Joel Miller, for the past 10 years. Miller was one of the Connecticut victims who died in the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="EVHST000001" title="September 11, 2001 Attacks" href="/topic/unrest-conflicts-war/terrorism/september-11-2001-attacks-EVHST000001.topic">9/11</a> terrorist attacks in 2001. Joining her is her grandson, Stephen Goldberg. A memorial service was held Thursday evening at the state's 9/11 memorial at Sherwood Island State Park in <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100201230000" title="Westport" href="/topic/us/connecticut/fairfield-county/westport-PLGEO100100201230000.topic">Westport</a>. Hundreds of victims' families, state officials and friends attended the hourlong ceremony that culminated in the guests visiting the memorial where the names of the state's vicitms are engraved.
