( STEPHEN DUNN, Hartford Courant / September 7, 2011 ) Sondra Phoner of New City, N.Y., has been placing a stone and a flag on the memorial marker of her brother, Joel Miller, for the past 10 years. Miller was one of the Connecticut victims who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Joining her is her grandson, Stephen Goldberg. A memorial service was held Thursday evening at the state's 9/11 memorial at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. Hundreds of victims' families, state officials and friends attended the hourlong ceremony that culminated in the guests visiting the memorial where the names of the state's vicitms are engraved. |
