In August 2008, the New Britain School District had laid off 15 teachers, 15 paraprofessionals and five parent-school liaisons. This year, the school district received less financial aid than it has in the past, and the board was forced to cut $10.6 million from its budget. Administrators cut 118 positions, including health, secretarial and administrative positions. Some of those employees were reassigned based on their seniority and skills, but others weren't so fortunate. Pictured at left are students in New Britain High School's media center.
