If You Hear Banjo Music

East Hartford turns into Appalachia for four days this week, with performances by the Travelin' McCourys, Doyle Lawson (pictured) & Quicksilver, Mountain Heart and dozens of other bands with “mountain,” “country,” “string” or “boys” somewhere in their monikers.

For most of us, bluegrass means Bill Monroe tunes, parking-lot jam sessions and mindblowing instrumental prowess. This shouldn't be any different, thankfully.

Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival, Aug. 4-7, $8-$99, Martin Park, East Hartford, (860) 291-7166, podunkbluegrass.net.
