Blake Lueder's 2009 Awards List: 2009 Indiana Mr. Football Position Award for Linebacker, 2009 Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State Team, named as member of 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Larry Hawley - "When Brian Kelly took the Notre Dame football head coaching job a week ago, he talked about restoring the Notre Dame program back to a national title contending level. Three coaches before him said the same thing, and each of them failed in one area: Defense. The Fighting Irish haven't had a feared defensive unit since the Chris Zorich, Todd Lyght, Bryant Young and Jim Flanigan days in the late-1980's and early-1990's. That was also the last time they were a national championship contender.
If Kelly is true to his word, then the rebuilding project will begin with players like Blake Lueders of Zionsville. The defensive tackle was the best defensive linebacker in the area, using his size and agility to cause problems for quarterbacks and running backs during an 8-3 Eagles season, in which they pitched two shutouts and kept six more teams point totals in the teens.
One of his better performances came in the "Mud Bowl" against Brownsburg, when he helped hold a pesky Bulldog option offense to few yards and no points, while scoring the game's only touchdown. He said afterward that it was the perfect game for any football purist, since it relied on physicality and small battles to eventually determine a victor. Looks like Mr. Kelly might have discovered one of the bricks for the future foundation of his program."
Wes Woodward - "Zionsville's Blake Lueders combined size and speed like no other around Central Indiana at the linebacker position. His speed was evident in the big HCC showdown against Fishers, where Z-ville knocked off the previously unbeaten Tigers. On a 1st half punt that was muffed by Fishers, Lueders recovered the ball in the end zone for Eagle TD. Opposing players would sometimes steer clear of his area, allowing his teammates to make the play. Like Bill Russell, he could affect the action with out directly being in on it."
