Five-time Olympic medalist Apolo Ohno kicked off his Vancouver Games with a silver medal in the men's 1,500 meters.
He broke a tie with Eric Heiden, who won five golds in long-track speedskating in the 1980 Games, and equaled the mark of Bonnie Blair, who has six career medals in long track, as the most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian.
Ohno, 27, won his first gold in the 1,500 at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
Ohno's next race is Wednesday -- the men's 1,000-meter heats. The final for the 1,000 is Saturday.
Ohno embraced J.R. Celski immediately after the race. Celski, 19, returned to the U.S. team after suffering a severe cut in his left upper leg at the Olympic trials in September.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
