CAPTURE UPDATE: On Thursday June 9, 2011, Portland Police Bureau Robbery Detectives arrested 48-year-old Michael Aaron Hayden for a probation violation.
Investigators believe that Hayden is responsible for a string of bank robberies in the Portland area. Hayden was given the nickname the "Beastie Boys Bandit" because his disguises look like they came out of a music video for the song "Sabotage" by The Beastie Boys.
In June 2010, a man wearing a wig, fake mustache, sunglasses and a dark colored suit with a white, button-up shirt robbed two US Banks in East Portland. The robberies occurred on June 3, 2010, at the US Bank at 1225 SE Caesar Chavez Blvd., and on June 8, 2010, at the US Bank at 1901 NE 42nd Ave. The suspect presents a demand note stating he is armed or there is a device in the bank. During the June 3, 2010 robbery, he showed a handgun in the waistband of his pants.
Investigators also believe that the "Beastie Boys Bandit" is responsible for the July 2, 2010 robbery of the Bank of the West branch located in West Linn; the January 4, 2011 robbery of the Chase Bank in Lake Oswego; the March 2, 2011 robbery of the Key Bank in Northwest Portland; the April 14, 2011 robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Lake Oswego; the June 9, 2011 attempted robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank located in Southwest Portland; and the June 9, 2011 robbery at the Bank of the West in West Linn.
Hayden is currently in the Multnomah County Jail while Federal charges are pending.
This joint investigation was conducted by the Portland Police Bureau, Federal Bureau of Investigation, West Linn Police Department, Lake Oswego Police Department, and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone with information about these robberies or Hayden is encouraged to contact Detective Tony Christensen at (503) 552-5411.
---ORIGINAL CASE 6/17/2010---
Remember the rap bands' music video "Sabotage"?
That's why this guy's named the "Beastie Boys Bandit". Like the guys in the video, he's wearing a wig, fake moustache, sunglasses, and a dark-colored suit with a white, button-up shirt.
That's the disguise he wore when he robbed 2 U.S. Banks in east Portland earlier this month.
Don't find this fugitive too funny though, because he's been armed with a gun for one of the hits, and threatened to have one in the other.
Here's a description of the BEASTIE BOYS BANDIT:
- Age: mid 30's - early 40's
- Ht: 6'0"
- Wt: 170-200 lbs
