The Family Farm

The place I'm most grounded is my family's farm in Whatcom County. My great grandparents settled there in 1905. I grew up on the property and worked for my uncles when they started an organic vegetable farm in the early 1970's. The farm is still in operation today. My uncle and cousin let me plant a small patch of veggies that I cultivate each year -- carrots, beets and chard, etc. I love to visit my grandmother on the farm and play Scrabble with her. I've only beaten her once in my life! She’s that good. No place on earth feels more like home to me.
