MRSA Bill Sent To Governor

State lawmakers are now waiting on Governor Gregoire to sign a new bill on MRSA screening into law.

Both the Senate and the House passed a measure that requires state hospitals to screen high-risk patients for the potentially deadly germ.

Four other states (California, Illinois, New Jersey and Pennsylvania) are already taking action to mandate how hospitals protect patients from MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Once the bill is signed, all hospitals must adopt a MRSA-screening policy by next year.
