Health Care Debate Hits Western Washington

It's an issue that's got people talking and even yelling. President Obama's health care reform package is generating strong emotions from those for and against it.

On Saturday, a group gathered near Seattle's Northgate Mall to protest against the plan. The group said they don't like the status quo but they also don't support the President's plan.

Kate Alvey held a sign and waved at those who honked in support. Others reportedly called the group names and even used hand gestures to show their displeasure. Alvey said "we don't want to take health care away from people we just don't want the government telling us how to walk and talk."

The debate over health care reform seems to be gathering steam. Even those grabbing a steaming cup of coffee cannot escape the issue. At the Seattle coffee and cupcake shops owned by Jody Hall, the topic is on the cup. Hall is hoping for a change "our insurance goes up at least 20% every year, one year it went up 40%" Hall went on to add "it's almost unsustainable, it is unsustainable."

President Obama used his weekly address to talk about health care and the tension building across the country. He tried to debunk some of the rumors that are going around. "This is an issue of vital concern to every American and I'm glad that so many are engaged, but it should be an honest debate."

Western Washington residents will still have several more opportunities to share their feelings on the topic. Town Hall Meetings are set for:
