Two soldiers stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord are suspects in sexual assault case

Two teenage girls allege they were sexually assaulted by numerous men in a Courtyard Marriott located in downtown Portland, OR on September 4. Two of the suspects are Army soldiers stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

According to the Portland Police Department, Portland police assigned to the Central Precinct received information that two girls, ages 15 and 17, had been sexually assaulted in a downtown Portland hotel room at about 4:00 a.m.

The Courtyard Marriott where the alleged incident occurred is located at Southwest 5th Avenue and Oak Street. The girls reported the incident from a Portland hospital.

Detectives arrested 22-year-old Timothy Hartbeck for Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Hartbeck is being held on $500,000 bail.

Detectives also arrested 27-year-old Stephan Bardos for Rape in the First Degree and Sodomy in the First Degree. Bardos is being held on $250,000 bail.

Both men were booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Portland Police Sex Crimes Detectives continue to investigate.
