T-j ford is moving forward.
The San Antonio Spurs guard announced on twitter that he's retiring.
Ford is a fellow Houstonian.
He became a basketball star at Willowridge High School and later played for the Texas Longhorns.
Eventually Ford landed a spot in the NBA, playing for the Bucks, Toronto and Indiana before finally coming back to his Texas roots.
He joined the San Antonio Spurs back in December, but his health finally got the best of him.
Early in his career, Ford was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal cord.
Doctors say one blow to his back could've blown out his career. So Ford made the decision to throw in the towel.
Being able to retire at 28 years-old, in today's economy, doesn't seem like a bad plight.
Though, in sporting terms, it's way too soon.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
