Dog food found to be spreading salmonella - in people

Listeria Outbreak (2011)U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

14 people around the nation are sick as a dog! This time, however, it's not contaminated cantaloupe or meat... it's from dog food!

There's been a nationwide recall and the CDC says it's investigating a salmonella outbreak that could be in pet food distributed by Diamond Pet Foods. Specifically, the food that came from a manufacturer in South Carolina.

So now that pet-owners in 9 different states have gotten sick, you may be asking yourself, how are people getting sick from salmonella in dog food? Right?

Investigators say simple contact with your furry-friend after their doggie-dinner could help to spread the disease. So, check your dog's food and if you're feeling sick, quarantine that pooch until you know what it's got!! Just kidding!
