Former Presidential Candidate John Edwards is in some deep trouble for allegedly concealing money from the public and Federal Election Committee by filing "false and misleading" campaign disclosure reports. A big "no-no" in Washington!
That's not even the juicy part.
He allegedly used some of those "campaign funds" and donations to support and hide his mistress, Rielle Hunter and their love-child in order to make sure American voters and Edward's wife, Elizabeth, didn't find out! So, his then-campaign aid, Andrew Young, became Edwards' official hide-a-hoe man, and now Young's in the hot seat...and by hot seat we mean the witness stand.
Young's now the Government's star-witness against Edwards. Young has spent the last two days on the stand, answering questions about his motives and whether he made up stories about how Edwards allegedly hid money from campaign donors; as his public statements contradict what he wrote in his book, published in February of 2010.
In true ride-or-die fashion, Rielle Hunter submitted a bid to keep some of the trial exhibits secret, but Judge Catherine Eagles rejected that request quickly.
Basically, this is the start of what will surely be a long, drawn out trial of yet another politician accused of acting like a low-life.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
