Online Dish: Mom vs. Mom! One Million Moms Goes After J.C. Penney Lesbian Mother's Day Ad

If you're a homophobic steer clear of J.C. Penny. Goodness forbid they would show an ad with a loving, happy lesbian couple and their daughters. Just makes you want to burn their clothes, right?! Well at least if you're a member of the "hateful" One Million Moms organization it does.

OMM, as Jezebel describes them "a hateful collective of a few thousand insufferable busybodies" has asked to burn the Plano-based company at the stake. At issue is a single page ad in the department store's May catalog that shows a lesbian couple doing "horrible" things like smiling, laughing, and hugging their children, while wearing, hold the page, wedding bands.

"You'll often find Wendi, her partner, Maggie, and daughters elbow-deep in paint, clay or mosaics," the ad reads. Further on it explains that Wendi's mother is an artist with a gallery in Granbury, Texas, and reiterates that the picture is of "Wendi with her mom Carolyn, daughters Raven and Clover, and partner Maggie."

The J.C. Penney Mother's Day campaign in question also features Cindy Crawford with her mother and ten-year-old daughter.

According to OMM's website, J.C. Penney went too far when they hired remarkably likable outspoken lesbian Ellen Degeneres as a spokesmodel, but they've gone double extra too far with this picture, which, in their words, is akin to the store "taking sides" in a "culture war." The press release calls on its members to voice their disdain for the yucky lesbians, since the store will also be hearing from "the other side."

Apparently store managers who received complaints from OMM supporters or those who disagreed with DeGeneres representing the company were "brushed off," according to OMM.

"Last time OMM contacted J.C. Penney store managers, we were brushed off," OMM states on its website. "Some even experienced in person the store manager saying 'Thank you' and walking off while their customer and our concerned members were in mid-sentence. OMM has been told that JCP corporate office told store managers to say 'Thank you' and then walk away. If they want our business, then we will not be ignored!"

OMM is again asking store managers be approached so they will take the complaints to corporate. The group also wants emails sent to jcpcorpcomm@jcpenney.com, stating that J.C. Penney blocks OMM's prewritten letters from its server.

Maybe because the letters are annoying, hateful, and frankly they don't care about closed minded people. Just a thought. But what do you think about the ad?

Viewers serve up their thoughts:

Jamie writes: OMM is the most ridiculous group of women. I try to ignore them, but they drive me insane. They've tried to get companies to pull their ads around Modern Family because there is a gay couple in the show. They tried to get JC Penny to fire Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson because she isn't 'family-oriented' enough since she is a lesbian. I don't know how anyone can take them seriously.

George writes: While I am for people having their rights to be who they are. Looking at the statistical data around Gays and their relationships I see zero benefit in promoting their life style. With all the data coming out linking being gay to genetics and hormones during birth it will be in short order till they are screened out or treatment applied to prevent the abnormality. We do it now for other defects and abnormalities. I think the biggest issue people have is the over whelming self destructiveness the gay cultures majority of members have. I have know a few out of the many I met I can actually say I respect. They didn't act like the majority such as the ones you can find trolling Orange blossom trail Orlando Fl or certain areas San Francisco.

Gleason writes: I don't think JCPenny is promoting any lifestyle. They are advertising to a specific demographic. Screened out? Treatment? They are people, not an epidemic. Get over yourself.
