Virgin Island crabs hit the beach

Spring Break

Got crabs? The island of St. John does... lots of `em.

What, in the name of Herman`s causing this mass movement of Hermit Crabs?  Like the wildebeest in the Serengeti, Hermit, or Soldier Crabs migrate yearly... but it`s not for food, no they're on a mission to spawn.

Every August these crabs 'soldier' en mass to the beach... where they drop trou- or shell... then breed.  The female crabs then wade into the water to lay their eggs.  After about two minutes the crabs do an about face, return to land, shell up and head for home.  This sounds a lot like the crab equivalent of Spring Break.
