ST. LOUIS, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals will be well represented at the 2012 MLB All-Star Gamein Kansas City with 4 selections to the National League Team.

Carlos Beltran (OF) and Rafael Furcal (SS) were voted by the fans to start.  Yadier Molina (C) and Lance Lynn (SP) were selected by the players for Manager Tony LaRussa, who is coming out of retirement to lead the N.L. Team.

LaRussa will also be joined by several of his former coaches on the National League bench; Derek Lilliquist, Jose Oquendo and Mark McGwire

This marks the 7th trip to the Mid-Summer Classic for Beltran, who started his career in Kansas City.  Molina is making his 4th trip, Furcal's 3rd, and Lynn's first selection.  Lynn also becomes the first former Springfield Cardinal regular to make an All-Star team as a Cardinal.

Beltran was signed as a free agent in the off season and is leading the team in home runs (20) and rbi's (61) while hitting .310.

Furcal was picked up by trade late last season.  He is hitting .280 after slumping through the month of June.

Molina is making his 4th straight All-Star appearance and will back up starter Buster Posey of the Giants.  Molina is widely considered the best defensive catcher in the game, but is experiencing a career year at the plate, including a .311 average with 13 home runs and 45 rbi's.

Lynn wasn't even expected to be in the Cardinals rotation, but has thrived in the role while filling in for the injured Chris Carpenter.  Lynn has 10 wins and a 3.62 ERA, despite allowing 17 earned runs in his previous 3 starts.  Lynn was selected by his fellow players.
