LOS ANGELES—
Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney was assaulted Monday by a passenger on a flight to Los Angeles. The 62-year-old was with his wife traveling on Air Canada from the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games when the attack happened. Romney reportedly asked a passenger sitting in front of his wife to put his seat up during take-off. The male passenger then took a swing at him, according to the Boston Globe.Romney's spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom told the paper "Gov. Romney did not retaliate, but instead allowed the airline crew to respond to the incident."
The plane taxied back to the gate where the unruly passenger was arrested.
The suspect's name is not being released.
It is not clear what provoked the attack, but Romney and his wife were not hurt.
Romney's Web site shows pictures of him and his wife at the games. Romney was a guest of honor at the 2010 games in Vancouver and was visiting Canada from Friday through Monday.
There is no word of the incident on his personal Web site. Fehrnstrom said the Romney camp is not taking calls about the incident and said the statement released speaks for itself.
