Breast Lift

Mastopexy, or breast lift raises and recontours loose, sagging breasts.Frequently, a woman elects this surgery after losing a considerableamount of weight, or losing volume and tone in her breasts after havingchildren.

In a breast lift, Dr. Nigro relocates the nipple and areola (thepigmented skin surrounding the nipple) to a higher position, repositions the breast tissue to a higher level, and removes excessskin from the lower portion of the breast. The remaining breast skin isthen reshaped. If you have your breasts enlarged as well as lifted, animplant may be placed behind your breast tissue or chest muscle.

This surgery commonly results in scars around the areola, extendingvertically down the breast and horizontally along and underneath thebreast. In some cases, variations in the placement of incisions may berecommended.

The breasts will be wrapped in a gauze dressing or placed in a surgicalbra immediately after surgery. A supportive bra may be recommended forseveral weeks following surgery. Swelling and discoloration will occuraround your incisions but will subside gradually. You may experiencedecreased sensation, which is usually temporary, in your nipples orbreast skin.

Mastopexy, or breast lift scars are permanent but will fade to some extent over time.
