Young athletes participated in a baseball tournament Sunday to raise money for a scholarship in honor of the late Chelsea King.
About 60 teams took part in games at sites across the county, and the money was raised by a $350 per team entry fee and merchandise sales, according to officials.
Organizers collected $5,000 more than the $20,000 they'd hoped for.
Chelsea, 17, was raped and strangled in February by John Albert GardnerIII, who attacked her as she ran in the hills near Lake Hodges.
Gardner pleaded guilty to murdering Chelsea and Escondido High Schoolfreshman Amber Dubois in a separate assault last year.
