LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Preliminary activities for this week's Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament at the Torrey Pines Golf Club bot under way Monday.

The touring professionals will play a practice round, and there will be a Pro-Am on the Torrey Pines South Course.

Among the players set to hit the local links this week are defending champion Bubba Watson, local favorite Phil Mickelson and veteran Vijay Singh.

Tiger Woods, who usually appears in San Diego's annual tournament, is skipping it this year to play in Abu Dhabi.

A second pro-am is set for Wednesday. The opening round, on both the North and South courses, is scheduled for Thursday.
