Big name golfers began to arrive at Torrey Pines Monday to prepare for the Farmers Insurance Open, which is set to tee off Thursday.

"We have some great players this year not only our defending champion but we have Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods," said tournament director Tom Wilson.

With Tiger signing up for this year's tournament, fans aren't the only ones looking forward to this participation, his competitors are also happy to see him.

"Yeah, we need Tiger back," said Rocco Mediate. "We need him back to normal. You always want your best guy out in any sport."

For Mediate, it means another chance to beat the world's best player. During the Torrey Pines tournament in 2008, Tiger beat him in a 19-hole playoff.

"It would be nice to have another shot but it doesn't mean I will beat him," he said.

With these big names, organizers expect around 160,000 spectators.

This year, PGA tour officials are using this tournament as a test for their cell phone use policies. For the first time spectators can bring and use their cell phone while in designated areas, organizers said.

"They will have to have their mobile devices on silent," said Tom Wilson. "You can use it the first few days but can't use it Thursday through Sunday."

Tiger is scheduled to tee off at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday while San Diego's Phil Mickelson takes to the course at 6:50 a.m.
