BROOKLYN, NY (KTLA) -- Rescuers were able to save 3 workers buried under debris after a building under construction collapsed.

It happened this afternoon on a building site at 2929 Brighton Fifth Street, in Brighton Beach.

“It’s a major collapse,” a Fire Department spokesman said.

“The most information that we have right now is that it’s pretty severe. Three people are trapped.”

Dozens of firefighters swarmed the scene, digging frantically at the rubble.

According to authorities, one of the workers was in cardiac arrest while the others suffered non-life threatening injuries.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the collapse, which was described as a pancake-type collapse.

Police were on the scene Tuesday investigating.
