McALLEN, Tx. (KTLA) -- A high school basketball player died after collapsing during a basketball tournament Saturday.

Robert Garza, a 16-year-old junior at Roma High School, was playing in the AAU tournament in Austin with his club team when he collapsed.

His coaches said the South Texas student was laughing with his teammates and playing well during the game.

"It's unexplainable. He got a glass of water. He 'high-fived' [a teammate] and then it just happened," Hoopster coach Arnold Martinez told a local newspaper.

Paramedics were unable to revive Garza and he was declared dead at a local hospital an hour later. An autopsy is planned.

Classmates called him inspirational and a "great, great, human being."

Garza's death comes more than a week after 16-year-old Michigan basketball player Wes Leonard collapsed and died on the court during a game-winning shot.
