WINNETKA, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police are looking for a man they say tied up a young woman Monday morning and raped her after he broke into a home in Winnetka.

Police responded about 7 a.m. to a report of a robbery in progress at the home in the 8300 block of Penfield Avenue.

The 35-year-old woman, who spoke to only KTLA but did not wish to be identified, said the man broke into the home, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital, where she was treated and released.

The woman said she was house-sitting for friends on vacation in Mexico, and that the home's sliding glass doors were unlocked as she slept.

Neighbors in the gated community are now frightened and worried they could be attacked next.

The victim said her attacker was a stranger. She described him as a young Latino man. She did not get a good look at his face because it was dark and he wore a hooded sweatshirt.

he said she thinks the man intended to rob the home, knowing the owners were out of town.

But after finding her alone, in bed, his already dark intentions grew darker.

He raped her and left without taking anything and leaving the front door wide open, she said.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
