Comic-Con Blog: Show Panels, Which Version of Wilfred is Better?

Thursday was the first full day of the 2012 San Diego Comic Con.

My girlfriend and I dressed up as Dr. Krieger and his virtual girlfriend, and we've never been asked to have our picture taken so many times. It was crazy.

Anyway, on to the highlights.

See photos from Ian's trip to Comic-Con here.

We walked the convention floor and checked out the artists that had their work up for display. It's really cool to see who could be the next great comic illustrator or concept artist with a small table off in the corner somewhere.

I met some elementary school-aged kids from Chula Vista that were giving away short comics they had written. They're a part of an after school program that encourages kids to write and create art, and there's no better medium for that than comics.

Today was the first day we went to any panels. We decided to head across the street to the Indigo Ballroom inside the Hilton early on so we had seats for the Wilfred and Archer panels.

While we waited, we caught most of the Voltron panel (remember Voltron??) and the panel for the 20th Anniversary of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Producers gave the audience a history lesson on how the Rangers came to be. Walter Jones, the original black ranger, was on hand, as well as Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy (Bulk and Skull).

We caught the Hotel Transylvania panel immediately afterwards. Director Genndy Tartakovsky (known for creating Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack) and producer Michelle Murdocca showed off some clips of the upcoming kids movie, starring Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg and Steve Buscemi. The movie's release is still a few months away, so the clips were unfinished and had a temporary score but it still looks like a great flick that both kids and grown-ups can enjoy.

FX's Wilfred was up next. Stars including Jason Gann and Elijah Wood joined writers and producers to show off an alternate, extended version of an upcoming episode. Gann, who created and starred in the original Australian version, said he considers the American version to be the real Wilfred.

FX continued their presentation with Archer. Creator and show runner Adam Reed, who also created Adult Swim cult favorites Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo, was joined by stars H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell and Amber Nash.

The Archer crew screened an episode from the upcoming fourth season and, as expected, it was hilarious.

There are three more days left, and lots more to come. I've added some photos and will update the gallery as the convention continues. See the photos here.

Thanks for reading!
