A state senator has introduced a new bill that would reward people $100 for reporting drunk drivers.
Under the bill, the offending driver would pay the tipster’s reward.
The bill, Senate Bill 1203, was introduced by Senator Ron Calderon (D-Montebello). Calderon said that, despite the decreased number of alcohol-related crashes, there are still too many.
“By engaging civilians to report drunk drivers, this bill would directly and immediately lower the number of roadway deaths” said Calderon in a Friday news release.
Lawyers argue that the driver has a right to face their accuser, but Calderon contends that the arresting officer is the accuser.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
