Residents that had been evacuated after a 56-hour hostage situation are being allowed to return home Saturday morning.

The American Red Cross has closed its shelter at El Camino High School for evacuated residents, now that the 56-hour standoff ended at the Arden Towne Apartments Friday evening. Dozens of residents were displaced from the apartment complex since Wednesday due to an on-going hostage situation where murder and robbery suspect and 26-year-old Anthony Alvarez was holding 16-month-old Michael Pittman Jr. hostage.

SWAT team members shot and killed Alvarez Friday evening and rescued the baby.
