Raiders Name Jackson as New Coach

The Oakland Raiders have named Hue Jackson head coach. This was expected after the Raiders did not renew former head coach Tom Cable’s contract earlier this month.

Jackson served as offensive coordinator this past season. Using his system and play calling the Raiders offense improved dramatically over the 2009 season.

Perhaps not coincidentally so did the Raiders record. Oakland finished the just concluded regular season with a record of eight wins and eight losses, their first non-losing season in seven years. This is Jackson’s first job as head coach at any level of football.

On a related subject, there are multiple reports indicating former head coach Cable has filed a grievance against the Raiders and owner Al Davis.

Davis reportedly withheld $120,000 in salary from Cable this past season. According to reports, Davis docked Cable’s salary to fine him for undisclosed  reasons.
