One day after Mayor Kevin Johnson said he is looking into bringing a MLB team to Sacramento, his counterpart across the river told FOX40 he was a little surprised by the announcement.
“That’s not usual, we have a really solid relationship between the two cities,” Mayor Christopher Cabaldon told FOX40 Tuesday morning. He went on to say he spoke with Mayor Johnson Monday at length, and “I think he gets it”.
“We spent decades trying to bring baseball to the area. The first efforts were for major league, we finally succeeded in bringing the River Cats to the region,” said Cabaldon.
Forbes magazine recently named the River Cats the most valuable Triple-A team in the country. Read more on that study here.
During his interview with FOX40, Mayor Cabaldon also talked about his city’s recent work along the river, creating a more attractive river walk area.
“We don’t have distractions, we just get focused,” he said.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
