A Sacramento women is hoping to represent her country the first time her sport is played at the Olympics next year.

Women’s boxing will be added to the list of events for the 2012 Olympics in London. Marina Ramirez has been boxing for about 6 years and at 106 pounds she hopes to bulk up a little and make the team.

FOX40 caught up with her while she was training at Prime Time Gym along Del Paso Boulevard. “Well, I did karate when I was a kid, I used to spar with the boys and kick their butt,” said Ramirez.

Ramirez plans on getting her weight closer to 112 to compete. For the first year of women’s boxing in the Olympics, there will be 3 weight classes; fly weight: 106 – 112 pounds, light weight: 126-132 pounds, and middle weight: 152 – 165 pounds.
