Johnson wasn't challenged over the final six laps Sunday, adding another 500 title to go with his 2006 victory.
This time crew chief Chad Knaus can enjoy it - he was suspended by NASCAR For the first victory.
Patrick was third on the final lap, but faded in the flurry of late action. She became the first woman in history to lead laps in the Daytona 500, though, with her three laps out front.
Kansas Native Clint Bowyer finished 11th in the Great American Race.
"It definitely could have been worse," said Bowyer. "You only have one shot at this race every year. Another year gone by. Not a fast race car. Had some troubles with some of my teammates and even some of our other manufacturer buddies. I guess we have to be lucky that we finished. All in all, it was a decent day for our 5-hour ENERGY Toyota."
