The Backstretch Blog: Bowyer on the Backstretch

Pocono went, just about the way Pocono always seems to go for Clint Bowyer. He started 12th, finished 16th. Pretty close to his career average at the track. The good news is he was just good enough to move up one spot in the point standings back to eighth.

"It was just one of those days where we couldn't get anything to go right for us on the track but still managed a top-20 finish," said Bowyer. "We gained a position in points so there is some consolation in there with that."

Time now to head to Michigan, a track much like Pocono for the 33 team in the fact that, they are just pretty average there. Although Bowyer has had success at other mile and a half tracks, so their is no reason why the team can't be good there. In 10 starts, Bowyer has just two top 10's and a career best finish of 8th in Brooklyn.

"I like racing at Michigan," said Bowyer. "I like how it's really wide. It opens up and you can run a lot of different lines on the race track. It has been a hit-or-miss track for us. We either run really well there or we don't run well at all. Again, we just have to find consistency on a track like that. That's what it all boils down to."

And while we are sitting around talking about Bowyer have you heard this? There is a push on Facebook to get the Emporia native as a host on Saturday Night Live. The idea is actually the brain child of AP Motorsports writer Jenna Fryer, although she is not behind the Facebook page. At least that's how it seemed this weekend. I have to be honest, I am not a big road course fan. They are interesting to watch for a while, but honestly there is just enough speed, its too hard to pass and they way pit strategy works out, it's too hard to figure out who really has a...

So let's just say that Kansas was a race that Clint Bowyer would like to just put in the rear view mirror. The 33 team wasn't awful in Clint's home state. But they were never really a threat to win, and after the fuel strategy played out, Bowyer finished 18th.
