World War II battle: An article in the May 3 Section A about the search for Japanese soldiers’ remains from World War II’s battle of Peleliu incorrectly included quotation marks in this sentence: A few days before they arrived, the government of Palau agreed to excavate a tiny cave hacked into a coral ridge overlooking “one of the beaches where the 1st Marine Division stormed ashore on Sept. 15, 1944, after a heavy naval bombardment.” It is not a direct quote.
Latinos in college: An article in the April 30 California section about a report on Latinos in higher education said that roughly a third of all Latino undergraduates attend a California community college. About two-thirds of Latino undergraduates are enrolled in community colleges, according to the report.
City of Industry: In the April 30 California section, an article about the City of Industry’s contracts with businesses owned by former Mayor Dave Perez and his family referred to Carol Perez as his wife. She is the wife of David M. Perez, the former mayor’s nephew who is also involved in the family’s enterprises.
Survey on riots: An article in the May 4 California section about a survey that found that most Angelenos don’t expect riots such as those in 1992 to occur again soon said that the survey would be released Friday. It was released May 1.
Ben E. King: In the May 2 California section, the obituary of “Stand by Me” singer Ben E. King was accompanied by a Getty Images archive photo that was misidentified as King. The photo was of musician Jimmy Castor.
Breast cancer: An article in the April 26 Section A about a projected increase in breast cancer cases by 2030 suggested that invasive breast cancers are ones that have spread to other parts of the body. Invasive breast cancers remain in the breast but have spread beyond their tissue of origin.
