Amal Clooney is Barbara Walters’ ‘Most Fascinating’ for marrying George Clooney

Barbara Walters declared Amal Alamuddin Clooney the most fascinating person of the year on her Sunday night television special “The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014.”

Never mind that the British human rights lawyer has a robust career; Walters tapped her because she managed to land one of Hollywood’s most elusive bachelors, George Clooney.

Oh, and she dresses well too. “Everything she does, says or wears is officially fascinating,” Walter said of the 36-year-old dark-haired beauty.

“How do I introduce her?” Walters said as part of the ABC program’s countdown to its choice for the most fascinating person of the year. “I guess the question is, ‘What does it take to fascinate one of the most fascinating men in the world?’”

Though Walters nodded to Amal Clooney’s legal career, she played up the newlywed’s status as the woman who managed to nab the guy who once swore he’d never settle down.

“You could say hers was the wedding of the year,” Walters said, “but let’s put it into perspective. It was really one of the greatest achievements in human history. Everyone said no one would ever get George Clooney to the altar.”

That included George Clooney himself.

He told Walters just that in a television interview done years earlier, stating “I know I’m never going to get married again.” (If you watched Walters’ report, you can see the Caesar haircut Clooney was sporting at the time.)

That earlier interview had added to the actor’s lore and legend as Hollywood most ineligible bachelor. “Like climbers attempting Mt. Everest, a bevy of beautiful women threw themselves at the unattainable and failed,” Walters said in her weekend special.

But Amal Clooney is different, said Walters, who went on to describe all the ways in which Amal and George are perfectly matched. That includes their ability to look quite snazzy in a suit.

With the marriage, Walters said, Amal Clooney was catapulted into the realm of the late Jackie Onassis, Princess Di and Kate Middleton: “Everything she does, says or wears is officially fascinating.”

Walters suggested that perhaps the real reason Amal Clooney is so fascinating is that it’s heartening to think that no matter how long it takes, it’s possible to find the perfect match.
