It would appear that Syfy believes in the power of magic, as the network announced Monday that it is renewing Sera Gamble and John McNamara’s “The Magicians” for a 13-episode second season.

“Thanks to an extraordinarily gifted creative team of executive producers and our partners at Universal Cable Productions, ‘The Magicians’ has become a buzzed-about hit, enchanting fans of the novels as well as attracting new and younger audiences to Syfy,” said David Howe, president of Syfy and Chiller.

Adapted from the bestselling novels by Lev Grossman, “The Magicians” centers around Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph), a student at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret and exclusive university for mastering the magical arts. As the series unfolds, it grows to encompass Quentin’s immediate circle of friends, inside and outside the walls of the school, as well as different worlds, both fantastical and frightening.

Through its first three episodes, “The Magicians” averaged 1.7 million viewers, according to Syfy, with the adults 18-34 demo growing consistently with each episode.
