What huntsman? The ‘Winter’s War’ trailer continues to be about awesome evil queens

Who doesn’t like a good origin story, especially about evil queens? The newest trailer for “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” shows us how Emily Blunt’s Ice Queen Freya acquired her magic ice powers.

The trailer opens with a reminder that “Winter’s War” is indeed somewhat related to a fairy tale, and reveals that the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron) has been obsessed with being the fairest of the land since long before the events of 2012’s “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Also that Snow White wasn’t even the first child to be the subject of Queen Ravenna’s jealousy.

It turns out that the Magic Mirror had previously told Ravenna that her sister Freya’s new baby was destined to be more beautiful than her.

“But beware,” the Magic Mirror warns. “Should any harm come to the child, your sister will unleash a power unlike anything the world has ever known.”

And, of course, harm does come to the child.

To remind us that the title character of the film is the huntsman (played by Chris Hemsworth), he eventually makes an appearance over a minute into the trailer.

After the tragedy, Freya comes to the conclusion that “if she could not raise a child, she would raise an army.” A normal thought process for any good, evil queen worth her immaculately braided hairstyle. Eric, the huntsman, is a part of said army, along with Jessica Chastain’s Sara.

But don’t worry the focus is swiftly returned to fight scenes between the two queens, with smatterings of Thor interjecting.
