007 Daniel Craig reportedly injured shooting ‘Spectre’ car chase in Rome

James Bond’s latest foe appears to be the Roman cobblestone — Daniel Craig, the star of the upcoming installment in the super-spy franchise, was reportedly injured in the Eternal City while filming a scene for “Spectre.”

Italy’s La Repubblica reported the incident, which is said to have taken place earlier this week when Craig was riding in 007’s splashy new Aston Martin DB10. (Ten models of the car have been built exclusively for the film.)

A stunt driver was steering the vehicle in a cage affixed to the top of the sports car when it hit one of Rome’s pesky potholes — that’s when Craig reportedly hit his head on the car’s interior, according to the Telegraph and NPR.

The British star is said to have been seen by an on-set medic and the injury wasn’t serious. He then jetted back to London, which was in line with the production schedule, the Telegraph said.

The 46-year-old actor’s Aston Martin was being tailed by a Jaguar C-X75 driven by latest Bond villain Dave Bautista on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II during the nighttime shoot. The Associated Press reported that the major thoroughfare had been closed to traffic on Tuesday because of filming.

“Spectre” was revealed as the 24th film in the long-running spy franchise back in December, around the same time an early version of the script was stolen during the massive cyberattack of Sony Pictures Studio.

The film, directed by “Skyfall’s” Sam Mendes, also stars Bautista, Ralph Fiennes, two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and 50-year-old Monica Belluci, the oldest Bond girl yet.

Production began in December and, in addition to Rome, includes Pinewood Studios, London, Mexico City, Tangier and the Austrian alps among its shooting locations. The film is due in theaters in November.

A rep for Craig did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
