Dan Aykroyd teases ‘Ghostbusters’ cameo opposite Kristen Wiig

Dan Aykroyd will pass the baton to the women of “Ghostbusters” with an on-screen appearance in Sony’s reboot of the action-comedy franchise about a quartet of paranormal exterminators.

The 63-year-old actor, who starred in and co-wrote the first two “Ghostbusters” movies in the ‘80s and is an executive producer on the reboot, teased his cameo Tuesday evening with a tweet that said, “On GB set shooting my scene with funny beautiful Kristen Wiig Lady GB’s are adorable, hilarious and badass Exhilarating! #ghostbusters.”

The tweet was deleted within hours of letting the cat out of the bag, but a person with knowledge of the production who asked not to be identified confirmed the cameo to The Times.

While Aykroyd’s tweet didn’t offer details about what character he would be playing this time around, it probably won’t be his original Ghostbuster, Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, since director Paul Feig has said the new film doesn’t share continuity with previous installments.

Along with Wiig, Feig’s new Ghostbusting team includes Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. The film is scheduled for release July 22, 2016.

Indie Revolver first reported the news of Aykroyd’s cameo.
