It would be the dream of any sci-fi-minded electronic music producer: digging into “Star Wars” for officially sanctioned sample material.

Super-producer Rick Rubin has announced a new project, “Star Wars Headspace,” which features 15 tracks of Cantina-ready jams forged from the audio of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and the franchise’s other films.

Many of the artists involved are at the vanguard of cosmically minded music. Flying Lotus, Royksopp, Kaskade, GTA and Shlohmo got access to the beloved clips of Vader’s huffing, lightsabers buzzing and R2-D2 blipping to transform into new club-friendly material.

Another surprise? A Rick Rubin and A-Trak remix of a tune by a little group called Shag Kava, whom “Star Wars” fans may recognize as “Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams and “Hamilton’s” Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Three tracks, including Lotus’ “R2 Where R U?,” debuted on Zane Lowe’s show for Beats 1 on Monday. The silliness of the conceit is balanced by the skill and obvious enchantment that the artists have for this source material.

The album is out Feb. 18.
